Vale Road Elementary School plans a bit up in the air

It appears that inadequate sewage facilities could derail the Harford County School District’s plan to build the Vale Road Elementary School on the site the district owns on Vale Road just west of Red Pump Road.

Supervisor of Planning and Construction Kathleen Sanner told the school board at its meeting Monday night that the public water and sewer currently serving the area might not be adequate to handle the volume that would be created by the school. Ironically, a pumping station that the developer of the proposed 100-home development Blake’s Legacy (north of the site and west of Red Pump Road) would help the school.

However, (and this didn’t come up at the school board meeting) the Harford County Development Advisory Committee told the developer’s representative at a recent DAC meeting that the committee wouldn’t approve the plans for Blake’s Legacy until school capacity problems in the area were alleviated. (There was also a problem with the number of panhandle lots in the development.) So, it looks like the district might be entertaining other sites for its new elementary school.
