Working on a wiki

I’ve been writing Bel Air News & Views for almost a year now and I think it’s time to stop talking at you and to start talking with you. To that end, I’ve been working this week on a Bel Air Development wiki. You’ve heard of Wikipedia — that encyclopedia that everyone can edit. This is the same kind of thing. I’m getting it started and I’m inviting you to take a look at it and see if you have anything to add. I decided to use the wiki to keep track of development in Harford County. I’m using the readily available information posted in the Harford County Government’s website to find out what developments are coming up for review at each Development Advisory Committee meeting. Then I’m using Atlas’ extremely easy open source mapping software to point out the general areas where these developments are planned. The maps are really cool because you can zoom in and out and pull them in any direction to give you a good idea of how close these developments are to where you live. I’m getting the wiki started by adding this information. I’d love to have more information about the developments. The beauty of the wiki is that if anyone has anything to add, they can go right ahead and add it — just like using Wikipedia. I’m using a different platform called PBWiki because it allows me to easily embed the maps. I just have two developments in there right now, but if you don’t mind, I’d love to hear what you think so far. Go ahead, give it a look. Change something if you like. It’s called crowdsourcing. And I think it might be fun.
