WJZ just reported increased police presence at C. Milton Wright Friday

I just caught the top of the 11 o’clock WJZ newscast and heard that there is supposed to be an increased police presence at C. Milton Wright Hight School tomorrow due to some kind of unspecified threat that involved Friday’s date. I don’t see anything more on the WJZ website or on the Harford County schools site at the moment. However, I did just notice the school district has given its site a complete overhaul.

Update 5/18/07 (8am): I now see the WJZ site has an item on the threat. So does the Baltimore Sun site:

“The threat came in a letter that arrived by mail at the Bel Air school yesterday. The letter said that “a student might have an intention of harming other students,” said Don Morrison, a spokesman for the county school system. Morrison said the threat was being investigated by police and that he could not give further details.”

This morning’s Aegis includes a story on the partial lockdown on page A6:

“During the lockdown, all school doors will be locked and only personnel with business at the school will be permitted inside. No limitations will be placed on outdoor activities such as gym classes.”

The WJZ item says parents are to receive an update by phone through the district’s Alert Now phone system at 10 a.m. Friday. Someone left a comment on this blog saying they’ve been by the school and there is right now both increased police and media presence.

Update 5:30 pm 5/18/07: WBALTV 5 o’clock news just reported the school day at C. Milton Wright passed by without incident, but attendance was down by half.
