The Harford County Library has video games! Seriously. They have video games for XBox 360, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and Wii that won’t cost you $8+ from a video rental store. And even better, you can check their online catalog to see what games are checked in and available before you load the kids in the car. No more wandering the aisles of Blockbuster saying there’s nothing interesting to rent. No more renting a movie for the 4-year-old because the 8-year-old got to rent a game. No more explaining to your kid that it doesn’t make economic sense to rent two games at a time because he’ll have to divide his pricey rental time between each of them. The library even has gaming clubs, nights and tournaments. Now, of course, the video game selection at library is seriously limited. When we visited the Bel Air branch tonight they didn’t have any Playstation 2 games available. But, when they are there, what a deal. And since you’re going anyway to sign up for the Summer Reading Program’s Reading Road Trip (starts June 18 and ends August 18), grab some books, throw in a movie and that should keep the kids busy for at least a day or two.
