Bel Air 4th of July parade watchers are already staking out their spots

The kids and I toured downtown Bel Air this evening to check out the 4th of July Parade stake out. Just before 5 p.m. we saw blankets and tarps laid out primarily at the beginning of the route on Bond Street near the Gordon Street intersection and at the end of the route where Bond Street runs into Kenmore Avenue and Kenmore Avenue meets up with 924 near the parade’s endpoint at Idlewild Road. See the map below for an illustration of the route. Click here for a more detailed map courtesy of the Bel Air Independence Day Committee. The lawn chairs and blankets are out more than 24 hours before the parade’s 6 p.m. start tomorrow. The parade is scheduled to run until 8 p.m. and last year, it ran the full two hours. While there were a number of blankets out, there was still plenty of open space along the route as of dinner time tonight. But if you’ve got your heart set on a particular patch of pavement, you might just want to run out there and stake your claim. Oh, and I thought just about everything would be closed on July 4, but the kids and I saw this sign while grabbing some dinner at the Main St. Friendly’s, encouraging fireworks watchers to stop by for ice cream after the show tomorrow night.
