Mapping some unfortunate incidents of "Stranger Danger" in Bel Air

Early last week Bel Air area parents started emailing each other about a man in a white pick up truck who was calling out to preteens in a couple of neighborhoods and saying some obscene things. The Harford County Sheriff’s Department put out a press release to warn residents last week. (I’ve copied it under the map below.) But the emails circulating among area moms mention some additional instances. While they may not all be related, it’s a good to be aware this is going on and to be extra vigilant. I thought I’d map the locations of the incidents mentioned in the emails that are circulating to provide a visual of where these things have been happening. I’m not entirely sure I have all the locations exactly right, so if you see anything that needs to be changed, or if you’ve heard of an incident that I ought to add, please let me know.

The Sheriff’s press release says that if you have any information about the man in the white pick up truck, please call the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Northern Precinct at 410-692-7880.

    Suspicious Male Approaches Children

(Bel Air, MD – September 26, 2007) – Harford County Sheriff’s Deputies are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying a male subjected involved in a suspicious incident.

On Tuesday September 25, 2007, approximately 6 p.m. two 12 year old children were approached near the 900 block of Henderson Road in Bel Air by a white male driving a pickup truck. The male attempted to engage the children in conversation however both children refused to speak; the male then uttered a sexually explicit remark before driving away.

The male subject is described as a white male, early 30’s, brown hair, mustache, and was unshaven. The vehicle is described as white, two-door Ford pickup truck.

A canvas of the neighborhood was conducted by sheriff’s deputies, however neither the subject nor his vehicle were located. Anyone with information regarding the suspicious person or the incident is asked to contact the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Northern Precinct at 410-692-7880.
