If you’ve been following the Kohl’s in Forest Hill saga and you missed the May 7th Harford County Development Advisory Committee meeting where it was discussed, those minutes are now available online. Click here for the document. But settle into a comfortable chair before you do. The section on the Kohl’s development (which starts on page 21) runs for 37 pages. Looks like there were more than 100 people at that meeting — many of whom spoke out against the Klein family’s plan to bring a 102,670 square foot Kohl’s department store to the 10.5-acre parcel they own at the entrance to the Forest Lakes housing development. But the members of the DAC advised them that they were not the body that could stop the development based on the residents’ concerns. The DAC did hear from a variety of county departments who are asking the developers to satisfy water, sewer, traffic and other concerns that will need to be addressed before the project can be approved and building permits issued. When I called the Planning and Zoning Department and asked about the project last week, they told me residents can continue to submit their concerns to the Planning and Zoning Department about such things as traffic and their comments will be reviewed as the different departments decide whether the developer has done what is needed to get his approvals.
