A BANV reader (thank you!) just alerted me to the presence of a detailed description of the complex that will include the new Wegmans in Abingdon. MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services has created a website that includes concept drawings, a site plan and detailed descriptions for the property to be called the Boulevard at Box Hill. A 144,000-square-foot Wegmans will anchor the complex, which is also to include 450,000 square feet of retail space, 50,000 of restaurant space and 88,000 square feet of office space. The complex is to be designed to have a “Main Street” feel. (Something we’re all familiar with since we’re fortunate enough our own real Main Street in Bel Air.) According to the website, Wegmans will be built first and is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2011.The second portion to be built is to include a 2,500-seat Multi-Plex Cinema, a department store and a bookstore among other retail. The third portion includes the office space. Ward Properties of Edgewood owns the space and is the developer. Brown Craig Turner of Baltimore is the architect and Frederick Ward Associates of Bel Air are the site engineers. Mackenzie Retail of Lutherville is handling the leasing and is the company who created both the website and a brochure that can be downloaded.
The Boulevard at Box Hill is being developed across Route 24 from the Constant Friendship shopping center. By looking at the site plans, it appears this new center is to designed with some greater forethought about traffic flow. Instead of the one-way-in-one-way-out set up we endure at Constant Friendship, The Boulevard at Box Hill development appears to be ringed by an access road that I imagine should make it easier to get around.
