You’ve all been asking, so I checked. And yes, Walmart is still coming to the Route 1 site in Fallston where a Ryan Homes sign now stands advertising an over age 55 townhouse community called Fallston Commons. Harford County’s Site Plans and Building Permits Chief Shane Grimm told me today that the county approved plans for the Ryan Homes community and the Walmart at the same time. The townhouse development will sit behind the Walmart. Grimm says he thinks the Wal-Mart will start going up later this year. A foundation has already been poured. However, he said the state highway administration is still working on financial arrangements with the developer and one property owner who needs to relinquish the right-of-way in order for required traffic improvements to be made. Grimm says the store can’t open unless the traffic improvements are complete.
Some of that competition could come from a new grocery store that was mentioned in the plans for the nearby Aumar Village, which is to be built on the corner of Routes 1 and 152 in Fallston. Grimm says he hasn’t been made aware of the name of any grocery store for that site and water and sewer service would need to be extended into that area before a grocery store could go in there. At this time, he says he’s only seen a plan for a pharmacy as part of that development.
Since we were talking groceries, I asked about the much-anticipated Abingdon Wegmans. Grimm says he believes the developer recently received a grading permit for that project. Click here for more details on the Boulevard at Boxhill development that will include the Abingdon Wegmans.
