Members of ChesapeakeMommies.com and the Aberdeen Moose Lodge have teamed up to do something sweet for kids with cancer this week. They’re hosting a community Yard & Bake Sale Saturday, June 26 to support Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer was started three years ago by New Jersey mom Gretchen Holt, whose son Liam Witt has been fighting neuroblastoma, a rare cancer of the nervous system since he was 2 years old. (Read her blog princeliamthebrave.blogspot.com to follow their journey) Holt organized an enormous bake sale that raised more than $400,000 for pediatric cancer treatment in development. Her success inspired a national cookie-baking organization. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is committed to raising the funds to support research for new and improved therapies for pediatric cancer, which takes the lives of more children than asthma, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and pediatric AIDS combined.

The Saturday event will be held 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Aberdeen Moose Lodge on 102 S. Rogers Street in Aberdeen. If you want to participate in the yard sale, you can purchase a space to sell your items for $10. Contact admin@chesapeakemommies.com to reserve a space. Proceeds from the sale of spaces and cookies will go to support Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. If you want to donate baked goods to sell, contact Lauren Stouten at lauren@chesapeakemommies.com.
