Help George Robinson kiss a pig for a good cause

George Robinson wants your help to win the chance to kiss a pig — a real pig. A friend asked me to post about George, one of the contestants in this Boys & Girls Club “Kiss a Pig” fundraiser. I looked it up on online and, sure enough, I found pictures of local notables planting their lips on a piglet’s snout at Ripken Stadium last summer. The Boys & Girls Club of Harford County selects a group of people from the area who compete to raise the most money for the non-profit organization, which provides youth development programs in Aberdeen, Bel Air, Edgewood and Havre de Grace. The person who raises the most money wins a chance to smooch with a pig. It’s the prize, which I suppose is both an appropriate tribute to Harford County’s agricultural heritage — and funny. Last year’s winner was Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty who raised more than $10,000 in the contest. This year, George Robinson of Lightspeed Mobile Advertising is hoping you’ll help him win enough money to kiss the pig. Robinson has set up a website to help him attract donors and if you donate more than $50 through his website by the Aug. 18 Ironbird’s game, he’ll give you free ad space on his illuminated, mobile billboards during the same Aug. 18 Ironbirds game where he’ll plant one on the pig’s kisser — if he wins. He’s made donating as easy as clicking on a link on his website, so visit to learn more. Click here to visit his Facebook page. Continuing with the porcine theme, his website also includes details of a July 8 fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Harford County at Susky River Grille in Port Deposit, Cecil County. Starting at 6:30 p.m., you can watch members of the HOGS (Harley Owners Group) roll in on their motorcycles and visit with them in the restaurant’s parking lot. A portion of the night’s proceeds will be donated to the Boys & Girls club.
