Harford County Purse Group to increase women’s financial literacy will hold inaugural meeting Sept. 16

Harford County has a purse group for women that has nothing to do with brand names and logos. This group, which will meet on the third Thursday of each month at the Bel Air Barnes and Noble book store, is all about financial literacy. The Harford County Purse Group was inspired by the Deborah Owens book “A Purse of Your Own.” Harford County’s group was spearheaded by Bel Air finanial advisor Lenora C. Hammett, MBA, who will be leading the discussion of budgeting and savings at the first meeting scheduled 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. September 16 at Barnes and Noble, 620 Marketplace Drive in Bel Air. The meeting is free and open to the public.

“The financial needs of women are very different from men. We are caregivers,” Ms. Hammett explained. “Many times we haven’t taken care of ourselves or focused on our own financial well-being. There are powerful financial strategies out there to help women make better financial decisions.”
