Newcomers Club of Harford County invites the public to its new members’ tea tomorrow at 7 p.m. at St. Matthew Church

Harford County is getting quite a few new residents lately — many of them due to the military’s Base Realignment and Closure plan which has brought new companies and jobs to Aberdeen Proving Ground and the surrounding area. It seems fitting that the Newcomers Club of Harford County has stepped up to welcome newcomers with events and meetings that help them get to know each other and this area better. The club has its own website ( and Facebook page and club president Betsy Bensen sent along this notice of a new members tea scheduled for tomorrow night:

Newcomers of Harford County –
Our new members’ tea will be held at St. Matthew Church on 1200 Churchville Road in Bel Air at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 8. While we are honoring our newest members, we welcome anyone who would like to join a fun social club in Harford County. You can attend this meeting and make new friends. There will be light refreshments and “getting-to-know-you games.

Here’s a description of the group Betsy provided:

The Purpose of the Harford County Newcomers Club is to provide opportunities for new and existing residents to make friends, to introduce them to activities in the area, and to assist new residents in becoming more familiar with the area. The Club also participates in both civic and social activities. A monthly newsletter is published, as well as a directory of all current club members.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month, from September through June, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 1200 Churchville Road (on Route 22), Bel Air, Maryland. Every meeting includes an informative speaker or an entertaining program. Most meetings are usually attended by women. However, the Club does hold activities to include spouses and significant others.

Club activities include monthly socials, dinner outings, card clubs, day trips, book groups, movie outings, walking groups, and a wine tasting group; if you just want to get together to chat, you can do that too; need some assistance due to illness, just call on the helping hands ladies. There truly is something for everyone.

The Clubs mailing address is P.O. Box 115, Bel Air, MD 21014. For more information, contact Jackie Dryden at 410-917-2928, or visit their website at .
