Harford County school board approves elementary redistricting plan

The Aegis is reporting tonight that the four-month, often contentious Harford County Public Schools elementary redistricting plan is now a reality. The Board of Education voted unanimously at its meeting tonight to adopt the plan to move nearly 2,000 elementary school students to new schools next year and to fill the new Red Pump Elementary School in an attempt to better balance enrollment districtwide. The vote, originally scheduled for Feb. 28, was postponed until tonight to give parents time to review the 10 changes that were made to the plan that night. At Monday night’s meeting three more changes were made to the plan:

  • Return Thomas Run Road from Dublin Elementary back to Prospect Mill Elementary School (adds six students to PMES)
  • Area of Deer Creek: Walters Mill Road to current northeast Hickory Elementary boundary (adds 19 students to Hickory ES and 19 subtracted from North Harford Elementary)
  • Amend Alternative 6 to extend to the Woodsbrook Community to Youth’s Benefit Elementary School (three additional students to Youth’s Benefit)
