Tiddlywinks Toys & Books “Fun’raiser” for 1-year-old Whiteford boy fighting cancer, Nov. 6
Tiddlywinks is hosting a two special Tots and Dots classes Sunday, Nov. 6 to raise money for Theo, a 1-year-old Whiteford boy who was diagnosed with a medullablastoma brain tumor shortly after his first birthday. The first Tots and Dots class is 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and the second is 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The cost is $10 per child and all of that money will go to Theo’s family. Class size is limited to 15. The classes are for children ages 5 and under and are teacher-led 45-minute parent-child interactive classes where parents and their children explore, learn and play together. Harford County Regional Association of Student Councils (HCRASC) will hold a county-wide meeting at Patterson Mill High School on November 9, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The special guests presenting to the students will be from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the statewide charity for the Maryland Association of Student Councils. This meeting will also include training for the students. In addition, HCRASC will hold a fundraiser night for the foundation on November 14, 2011, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Panera Bread at the festival.

Alma Katsu, author of The Taker, will be visiting the Bel Air Branch of Harford County Public Library on Thursday, November 10th at 6:30 pm to speak about her novel. A book signing will follow the program. Published as a lead title in September by Simon & Schuster and reviewed by Publisher’s Weekly as “a novel full of surprises and a powerful evocation of the dark side of romantic love,” The Taker is a spellbinding novel that is part historical fiction and part supernatural drama. Hurd 5K Walk/Run in memory of Heather Hurd, who was killed in a traffic collision in 2008 by a distracted driver. HCC and the Hurd family would like to remember the thousands of victims who are tragically killed on our nations roads each year and acknowledge the work of our fire, police and ambulance personnel. The proceeds from this event will benefit the Remembrance Book Scholarships for HCC students and help draw awareness of traffic collisions, their consequences and costs and the measures that can be taken to prevent them.

Annual 5K One World Run, Nov. 19
The Falcon Flying Feet Running Club, a group of active and dedicated students at North Harford Middle School, will participate in the Annual 5K One World Run to be held November 19, 2011, in White Hall at the Norrisville Recreation Complex. This international event takes place in many cities and countries around the world. The cause has even spread to Antarctica, so this year, there will be runners on every continent! Since the race is completely corporate-sponsored, all the race fees go to Project AIDS Orphan (PAO). PAO is a not-for-profit organization supporting children who have been orphaned by the AIDS crisis in East Africa. Funding goes directly toward Mission House of Hope which provides food, clothing, health care and education to AIDS Orphans in Kenya.

The Dougherty family of Havre de Grace is having a Walk a Mile in My Shoes walk-a-thon Nov. 19 at Annie’s Playground. The event benefits the XXYY Project, an organization that raises awareness of XXYY Syndrome, a condition that affects one of the Dougherty’s children.
