Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County awards $20,000 in grants to 10 Harford County non-profits

A local women’s philanthropy group, founded just last year, announced its first grants to 10 Harford County non-profits. Here are the details:

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HARFORD COUNTY ANNOUNCES

FIRST WOMEN’S GIVING CIRCLE GRANTS

 

Bel Air, Md., November 4, 2011  —  Community Foundation of Harford County is pleased to announce the first-ever grants awarded by the Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County. Ten grants totaling $20,000 are being given to Harford County nonprofits.

The Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County, founded in 2010, is dedicated to engaging women of all generations in the power of community philanthropy to address the needs of women and families. Fifty-four women are members. The Giving Circle funds are held and managed by Community Foundation of Harford County as a group donor-advised fund.

Grants have been awarded to the following nonprofits:

The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region                                                         $1,500

In support of family support services

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Maryland Mentoring Partnership           $2,500

In support of the John Archer School Bigs-in-School Program

 

Family & Children’s Services of Harford County                                        $2,500

In support of the trauma-based treatment center

 

Harford Family House                                                                                   $2,500

In support of the Steps to Independence program

 

Highlands School                                                                                           $1,500

In support of the Alpha Smart NEO keyboard expansion

 

Homecoming Project                                                                                     $1,000

In support of a computer lab

 

LASOS                                                                                                           $2,500

In support of the Mommy and Me Program

 

Tabitha’s House                                                                                            $1,500

In support of the food pantry

 

Upper Bay Counseling & Support Services                                                 $2,500

In support of the women’s psychiatric rehabilitation group

 

Village at Lakeview Neighborhood Network Community Center              $2,000

In support of the Homework Help Club

“The Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County demonstrates the power of women coming together to make a difference in our community,” said Jayne Klein, president of the Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County. “’We are pleased to be able to award $20,000 in grants in our first year to assist nonprofits who work directly with women and children in Harford County.”

          Community Foundation of Harford County, founded in 2007, is supported by the community through donations, enabling individuals, families and businesses to leave a legacy to benefit the causes they care about. Charitable gifts are used to make Harford County stronger through grant-making to local nonprofits and through scholarships.
