A new fitness center is planning to come to the space Spenceola Antiques vacated at the Rock Spring Shopping Center back in September of 2010. Planet Fitness applied for a tenant occupancy permit with the Harford County Department of Planning and Zoning on Dec. 13 for the location, according to Shane Grimm, chief of the county’s site plans and building permits review section. Workers are currently renovating the site’s interior. Permits were also filed for Tuesday Morning, located next door, to expand into the site.

This corner of Route 924 and Bynum Road might get another change. The 7-Eleven located on the east side of Bynum Road is looking to relocate across Bynum Road to 1501 Rock Spring Road, at the corner where Taurus Towing & Auto Repair now sits. Taurus owner Bill Watson says he’d prefer to stay at the location, but if 7-Eleven does end up getting the necessary approvals to build at his spot, he’d move his business to his second location on Route 543 in Hickory. The 7-Eleven proposal for a 2,494 square-foot store on just under a half acre, gets its next review at a Development Advisory Committee meeting 9 a.m. Wednesday at 220 South Main St. Watson says area residents are concerned about increased traffic at the site and have collected signatures expressing their concerns. However, according to a letter the project manager submitted to the county planning department, no one attended the Jan. 11, 2011 community input meeting on the project. Across town, JCPenney has submitted a building permit  to the Harford County Department of Planning and Zoning for a site that would be part of the Integrated Community Shopping Center near the new Wegmans in Abingdon. Grimm said JCPenney’s permit is currently under review and has not yet been approved.
