Want to see a really big potato? Head over to the BJ’s Wholesale Club in the Constant Friendship shopping center before 3 p.m. today to get a glimpse of the 6-ton potato visiting on behalf of the Idaho Potato Commission. The Commission is celebrating its 75th year of promoting Idaho potatoes with this Famous Idaho Potato Tour. They recreated the image on a classic Idaho potato post card depicting a giant potato hauled on a flat bed truck and took their show on the road. This potato, built with a steel and wood core, has traveled more than 5,000 miles across the country so far and visited the Aberdeen Walmart earlier today. In addition to promoting Idaho potatoes, the tour is also supporting the Meals on Wheels Association of America. The potato’s next stop is Glen Burnie on Monday. The BANV family spied the potato earlier today in Constant Friendship and my son snapped the photo above. Mr. BANV says is feels like a real potato. If you’re curious how they built this almost 13 foot tall spud, check out the video above.
