Decorating a nursery for a new baby? Want to save money on brand name fashions for teens? Looking for something to wear this weekend that won’t break the bank? Bel Air News & Views sponsor Painted Daisy Consignment Boutique in Forest Hill likely has just what you need. The new boutique, which opened April 13 next to That Bouncy Place on Newport Drive, is owned and operated by sisters Michelle Carrigan and Renee Rumer. The two women, who grew up in Bel Air and spent their early careers in retail — Renee for children’s stores like Gymboree and Justice and Michelle in women’s wear including The Gap and White House/Black Market — wanted to bring their sophisticated retail sense to the local consignment scene.

“We have an open, fun environment,” Michelle said of her store’s soaring 20 foot ceilings. “We have music on, we’re stroller friendly. Kids are playing all over the place. You can put a double stroller through the store.”

The spaciousness of the building allows Michelle and Renee to organize it much like the retail environments where they worked, with merchandise arranged in sections.

“It makes it easier to shop,” Michelle says. “It gives it more of a boutique feel.”

Painted Daisy Consignment offers items for the whole family from infants through teens and men and women. They also feature new items from local vendors.

“We have a great assortment for teens,” Michelle says of merchandise that includes brand names such as Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle.

Painted Daisy Consignment also features sports equipment including cleats and items for football and soccer to help parents outfit kids for fall sports.

The sisters brought their sophisticated retail sensibility to the payment process as well. They provide consigners with both an online method to track payments and an iPhone app that will allow consignors to keep track of items they sell and how much money is owed. It can update consignors within 20 minutes of when their items sell. Michelle and Renee update their Facebook page regularly with their latest items, with many selling quickly after they post.

Michelle and Renee say: “We felt we’d offer a different approach to consignment.”
