Aberdeen Proving to Ground Host Oktoberfest
ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md.—Aberdeen Proving Ground will host its first Oktoberfest from Sept. 27-30, 2012, at the installation’s Shine Sports Field. The event is open to the public free of charge with the exception for food and beverages.
The purpose of the event is to foster relationships and continue to strengthen existing bonds with the surrounding communities. The 4-day event will salute the communities around the installation including Aberdeen, Bel Air, Havre de Grace, and Cecil County, thanking each for its unwavering support over the past 95 years and continued support as APG continues to evolve.
APG Oktoberfest is fun for the entire family and is geared for the widest audience featuring German food and beverages, a Volksmarch or “Peoples” march which is a form of non-competitive fitness walking, Festhalle or “festival hall,” music, car show, craft show, kids corner, and fireworks presented by Zambelli Fireworks on Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm. Instead of the traditional “pay-as-you-go” carnival rides, the decision was made to bring a variety of giant inflatable entertainment activities that will be completely free of charge. Some are individual events while others are competitive such as jousting, obstacle courses, slides, and a giant basketball challenge, to name a few.
Local government and senior military leaders will be in attendance to take part in the festivities. More information will be released as it becomes available. Information may also be obtained by visiting: www.apgmwr.com/oktoberfest.html or www.facebook.com/APGmd.
