Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna to Break Ground on The House That Bel Air Built

(Bel Air, MD) – On Friday, February 8, 2013 at 12:00 pm, Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna (HHS) will break ground on its latest project at 404 Giles Street. This is the first home to be constructed in Bel Air by Habitat, whose mission is to build simple, decent affordable homes in partnership with qualifying low-income families.

HHS, now in its 20th year, has built 69 homes to date across Harford and Cecil counties, but never in Bel Air. High land costs have primarily kept the organization out of Bel Air. Thanks to the generosity of Harford County Government, The Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Town of Bel Air, this home will finally become a reality.

To commemorate the occasion, HHS will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking at 12:00pm at the future home site – 404 Giles Street. The property’s previous structure has been torn down to make way for a new home for the Crouse family, long time Bel Air residents.

“Habitat is going to completely change our lives. We will move from a two bedroom apartment into our very own home,” said Holly Crouse, future Habitat homeowner. “If I could get together with all of the volunteers and everyone involved in our journey, I would tell them ‘thank you!’ They each will have a hand in changing my family forever. We will never forget every hour they will spend building our home. The fingerprints that they leave behind will always be within our walls. Our home will stand because of them.”

The construction will commence at the end of this month and continue through May. Sponsorships and volunteer opportunities are still available. For more information, go to www.habitatsusq.org/belairbuild.
