Children’s author Kwame Alexander to appear at the Aberdeen Library June 15

Kwame Alexander, author of 15 children’s books will be appearing at the Aberdeen Library on Saturday, June 15th at 2pm. His children’s picture book, Acoustic Rooster, a rhyming, rhythmic story about a group of jazzy animals who drive the barnyard wild, has been optioned for a national TV show. His debut Young Adult novel, He Said/She Said generated excitement at the recent Book Expo America convention, and his 2014 Young Adult novel, The Crossover, is winning rave reviews from American literary stars. Registration for Saturday’s event is recommended. Children’s Center of North Harford 2013 Summer Adventures Program begins June 17

The Children’s Center of North Harford is excited to announce registration for the 2013 Summer Adventures Program.  Summer Adventures, which is open to children ages 4 to 11, is set to begin Monday, June 17 and offers 10 theme-based weeks of fun and learning.  Weekly themes are include The Rainforest, Prehistoric Times and Down on the Farm as well as many others.  The program runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Before and After Care are optional and run from 6:30 am to 9:00 am and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  The Summer Adventures Program will be held in our newly renovated School Age Classroom. Each week includes a theme-related field trip and guest speakers.  During Weird Science Week, participants will be delighted by a visit from Miss Margie Lynch, better known as the Bubble Lady, as she amazes us with the science of bubbles.  A visit from Mr. Richard Anderson of the Snyder Animal Foundation during The Great Outdoors Week will bring the children face to face with the animals of Maryland including a skunk and some wide-eyed owls.  Participants will visit the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth by making paper mache dinosaurs and acting as paleontologists as they dig through rock to find dinosaur bones.  A visit from Scales and Tales will make learning fun. Pirate Week includes a field trip to Inner Harbor to be entertained by the Urban Pirates of Baltimore.  This exciting field trip will include a one hour harbor tour on the pirate ship “Fearless” with the Urban Pirates as our hosts.  Other field trips include swimming at the Conowingo Pool and a visit to the Fire Museum of Baltimore. Families can choose to enroll for one or more weeks of the Summer Adventure Program.  Discounts will be given for families with multiple children.  For more information or to register, please contact Christine Halliwell at 410-836-0444 or by email atccnh707@zoominternet.net.

 

Kingdom Rock Vacation Bible School, June 17 – 21

Trinity Lutheran Church will be hosting a Kingdom Rock themed Vacation Bible School from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM each day at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1100 Philadelphia Road, Joppa. At this weeklong Vacation Bible School, kids will participate in fun-filled activities, games and lessons, while learning what it means to stand strong for God. “We are all looking forward to sharing this event with children and parents throughout our community. We hope they will all join us for Kingdom Rock. Trinity Church is ready for a Vacation Bible School that children and their parents will never forget.” Children’s Ministry Director, Stacy Morse encourages children of all ages to attend. “We are excited to share this event and hope you that everyone will join us. We’ll help children learn how to stand strong for God.”

Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna to dedicate “The House that Bel Air Built” June 21

On June 21st at 10 a.m., Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna, Inc. (HHS) will cut the ribbon on the House That Bel Air Built, located at 404 Giles Street. This will be the 71st home HHS has built since its inception in 1993 and the first constructed in the Bel Air town limits. The House That Bel Air Built is the future home of Roger and Holly Crouse, and their seven children. Innovation Cafe offers STEM opportunities for elementary students this summer

Innovation Cafe presents Summer of Innovation, a program that allows children to explore the roles of engineer, chemist or technology designer in a fun and innovative environment. The program includes hands on labs in physics, chemistry, biology, math and chemical/mechanical/civil and electrical engineering. The program is offered for students in grades 1 through 8. Registration deadline is June 22. Lab sessions are 1 hour per week and the program runs eight weeks through the months of July and August. Fees are $30 per session and $200 for all eight sessions.
