RITE AID FOUNDATION AWARDS $10,000 TO JOHNS HOPKINS BAYVIEW MEDICAL CENTER
CAMP HILL, Pa. (Aug. 5, 2013) – The Rite Aid Foundation announced today a $10,000 grant to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, which will use the funding to provide scholarships to Camp Superkids. Camp Superkids is a weeklong residential summer camp for children with asthma ages 7½ to 12. A limited number of scholarships are awarded each year for qualified families across the Baltimore Region and beyond.
“Knowledge is the key when it comes to managing asthma,” said Gayle Rife, Rite Aid Foundation Manager. “Camp Superkids is the perfect environment for children to learn proper asthma management skills while having fun, and that’s why The Rite Aid Foundation is proud to support this worthy program from Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.”
Camp Superkids offers a traditional summer camp experience with the extra attention and care to help children with asthma feel safe managing their condition. The camp is staffed at a ratio of 3 campers to 1 counselor with volunteer registered nurses, physician assistants and nonmedical counselors. “With asthma, even the most regular childhood activities can be intimidating,” said Heather Dougherty, Camp Superkids Administrator. “Thanks to the grant from The Rite Aid Foundation, we’ll be able to provide a fun and educational camp environment where children can increase their independence and learn to better cope with their asthma.”
