Interested in seeing a holiday train garden this season? Harford County is home to several train gardens and there are many more throughout the region. Applewood Farm, 4435 Prospect Road, Whiteford, MD. “Christmas at Applewood”. Eight model train displays and The Applewood Express, a miniature 1870′s vintage steam train that will carry guests on a scenic 6/10 mile tour. Plus Christmas trees, hayrides, petting zoo, kiddy maze, lawn bowling, reindeer antler toss, & 1773 log barn. Chesapeake Susquehanna & Western Model Railroad, 36 Porter Road, North East, MD. 15th Annual Christmas Model Train Open House has been under construction for the past 16 years and continues to change each year. Tuesdays December 3, 10, 17, Thursdays December 26, 6:30pm – 9pm. Saturdays December 7, 14, 21, 11am – 4pm. Sunday December 22, 29, 1pm – 5pm. Christopher’s Train Garden, Broom’s Bloom Ice Cream and Dairy Store, 1700 South Fountain Green Road (MD 543), Bel Air, MD. Train garden displayed in memory of Christopher Cooper by his family and friends. See the Ocean City Boardwalk, complete with an operating model roller coaster, rides and many other favorite OC attractions. Come experience the magic of the Polar Express. Enjoy trains of all sizes as they circle in and around models of local favorites such as Bel Air’s Main Street, Brooms Bloom Dairy Farm and Annie’s Playground. Feel the holiday spirit with the Dickens and Christmas Villages along with lots of animation including skiers, snowboarders, ice skaters and much more. There is a play area for children with a train table and an area to color, read stories and write letters to Santa. November 24 through December 29. Wednesday to Sunday Noon – 8pm. Historical Society of Harford County, North Main Street (at the corner of Main and Gordon Streets), Bel Air, MD. Model Train Show, working model trains from the Harford Modular Model Railroad Group. November 16 through December 15. Fridays 4pm – 8pm, Saturdays Noon – 7pm, Sundays Noon – 4pm. The closing time is when people will no longer be allowed in. Jacksonville Senior Center, 3605A Sweet Air Road, Phoenix, MD. The Jacksonville Train Garden has expanded this year and will feature Ocean City and Washington DC, the modeled home of our raffle winner, in addition to our many new community landmarks. The garden will take up the entire room, is free to the public, and will be enjoyed by all ages. Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company, 3825 Federal Hill Road, Jarrettsville, MD. 32nd Annual Train Garden open from November 29 through January 12. Open 6:30pm – 9pm Fridays, 1pm – 9pm Saturdays and Sundays, 9am – 9pm Saturday December 7 for the Craft Fair. Also 1pm – 9pm January 1 and 6:30pm – 9pm December 26, 30, 31, January 2. Mason Dixon Large Scale Railroad Society, Bel Air Town Center, 500 Block of Baltimore Pike (US Business 1, enter between Chili’s and Taco Bell and go straight), Bel Air, MD. View two G-gauge layouts: a large, 72-foot long modular layout with scratchbuilt model structures the depicting local area and lots of animated scenes. Also, a smaller Christmas tree layout with illuminated buildings in a wintry scene is in the store window. Perryville Railway Museum, Perryville MARC Train Station, 650 Broad Street, Perryville, MD. The museum features railroad pictures and memorabilia from different time periods of Perryville history. There is a model train layout showing how the tracks for both Norfolk Southern and Amtrak run through Perryville. Sundays year-round Noon – 4pm.www.perryvillemd.org
