Aberdeen, MD (May 23, 2014)Corvias Military Living, an affiliate of Corvias Group, celebrated the opening of the Bayside Community Center yesterday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) in Aberdeen, Maryland. Corvias Group is a privately-owned family of companies that strives to tackle tough, large-scale challenges through trusted partnerships that put client interests first; focus more on performance than profit; and, produce sustainable long-term solutions.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Brig. Gen. Bruce T. Crawford, Garrison Commander Col. Gregory R. McClinton, as well as representatives from Corvias.

The Bayside Community Center is a 7,500-square-foot facility dedicated to the military families living on post and was designed to be at the heart of their community. Similar to all the community centers built by Corvias, it will serve as a place where people can gather and socialize. Themed for Ocean City, Maryland and designed with a boardwalk and beach feel, the space reflects the history of the installation and the local area’s culture.

Corvias actively manages 13 U.S. government partnerships and additional private partnerships. In the past 12 years, the company has raised the capital needed for the construction and redevelopment of more than 12,000 acres in communities serving more than 24,000 families. Corvias is also currently responsible for implementing more than $11 billion in maintenance and infrastructure repairs, and will reinvest $4.4 billion into its current public sector partnerships for continuous maintenance, upgrades and redevelopment during a 50-year span. Corvias Foundation, the private, charitable foundation of Corvias Group CEO John Picerne, has awarded more than $4.5 million in scholarships and educational grants since its founding in 2006.

“The unveiling of this community center is very significant for the residents of Aberdeen Proving Ground,” said Mike Steiner, Managing Director of Corvias Military Living. “We’re very proud that the project came to fruition as the result of a successful public-private partnership between the Army and Corvias. The Residential Communities Initiative is a wonderful program that allows us to provide service members and their families with the quality of life they deserve.”

The community center features several amenities, such as a fitness room equipped with a television for following workout videos, a kids playroom featuring touchscreen learning devices adjacent to the gym so that parents can watch their children, a computer lab, and a kitchen that opens up to a room available to be reserved for special events. Additionally, residents will be able to enjoy the outdoors with a playground and a pool.

During today’s event, two families cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the center for all Aberdeen Families. The Rousayne’s, Aberdeen’s Noncomissioned Officer Family of the Year, and the Stokes represented Corvias residents in the ceremony who will now be able to enjoy the center and amenities.

This project was supported in part by Harford County, as the community helped the partnership secure a better financing structure for the program.  This structure improved the ability to finance the project and has helped provide better housing for Soldiers and their families.  Due to the support of the community, the Bayside Community Center was delivered a year ahead of schedule.
