St. Matthew Lutheran Church Christmas Festival of Lights continues through Dec. 31
Bel Air holiday light aficionado Jim Kurtz has taken his formerly residential display to the grounds of St. Matthew Lutheran Church again this year and helped Pastor Blaise Sedney design a showpiece of 43,000 lights synchronized to holiday music. Weather permitting, the display will begin on Friday, November 28, and run through Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Operating hours run are every night starting at 6:00 pm and ending at 10:00 pm (Sunday through Thursday) and 11:00pm (Friday and Saturday), except for a few nights when the display times will be adjusted to accommodate other church functions. Breakfast with Santa at Bel Air Applebee’s to benefit childhood cancer research, Dec. 6
Santa is scheduled to visit the Bel Air Applebee’s restaurant from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Dec. 6 to help raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The breakfast includes unlimited pancakes, sausage, juice, or fountain soda, served by staff who volunteer their time and talents each year. Along with breakfast, each child is encouraged to bring her mom and/or dad to visit with Santa and take a picture with a camera or smartphone. All of the proceeds will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The donations for Breakfast with Santa are $7 per person. ALSF focuses on encouraging and empowering others, especially children, to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer research for treatments and cures. In the 10 years that Applebee’s has been raising funds for ALSF, these regional locations have helped raise a combined $3.2 million in funds. The Bel Air Applebee’s is at 1225 Churchville Rd.

The 25th Annual Bel Air Christmas Parade and celebration begins with an outdoor band concert from 2:30 – 3:30 pm, Dec. 7 on the steps of the Harford County Courthouse on Main Street, by the Route 66 Band. The Parade steps off at 3:30 pm, with the same route as before: from the Oyster House Restaurant down to Lee Street, then right on Lee Street to Har-Co Credit Union. All are then invited to Shamrock Park, where the Bel Air Community Band is playing music of the season in the Humbert Band Shell, and free hot chocolate and cookies will be given out to all (while they last!). A cheery bonfire will also occur, and the entire event ends with the lighting of the Bel Air Town Christmas Tree, around 4:50 pm. Due to the weather forecast the HdG parade committee has decided to postpone the Christmas parade to Sunday, December 7. The parade will start at 6:00 on St. John Street processing to Washington Street ending at Congress Ave. Following the parade Santa, along with Mayor Wayne Dougherty will light our Christmas Tree to welcome in the Holiday Season! Santa will then be available to hear all your Christmas wishes at Santa Land on Washington Street.
