HAR-CO Credit Union Awards $11,000 in Scholarships to Harford County Students
(Bel Air, MD) –HAR-CO Credit Union, Harford County’s education credit union, celebrating our 60th Anniversary, this school year has completed the 30th year of awarding scholarships to our members. HAR-CO held true to its mission by awarding $11,000 in scholarships to graduating Harford County high school seniors.
HAR-CO has awarded scholarships every year since 1985. Since then 251 graduates have received HAR-CO scholarships.
The competition for the scholarships is very tough; this year’s applicants attend eleven high schools in Harford County, said Andrew O’Connor, President, HAR-CO Board of Directors/Scholarship Committee Chair, “Our outstanding applicants made it extremely difficult to select the winners. They were all well rounded, outgoing and intelligent individuals.”
Applications are distributed in January to each accredited high school in the county. A $1,000 scholarship is offered to each high school’s graduating class. As the educational credit union for Harford County, any Harford County student is eligible to join HAR-CO with a minimal deposit of $5 and proper identification.
HAR-CO President and CEO James Meehan, said, “This is our 30th graduating class. Our experience is that Harford County graduates will go on to do important things, some of them right here in our community.”
