Tonight is the night to register for baton twirling classes at Applause of Bel Air from 6-8 pm at the McFaul Activities Center (behind the MVA) in Bel Air. Here are the details:
Have you ever wanted to learn how to twirl a baton? If you already twirl, perhaps you would like to be part of a State and National championship team? If so, Applause of Bel Air is the place for you. We are a program of Bel Air Parks and Rec that has been in operation for over twenty years in Harford County. Our affiliation with Parks and Rec allows us to offer the finest in baton twirling instruction at a fraction of the cost of area private groups. Our teams and individual twirlers have won more state and national titles than any other group in the Harford County area. We are the current NBTA Preteen beginner small and large and Junior small beginner Dance Twirl National Champions, as well as the 2010 NBTA Maryland State Champions in Juvenile beginner small, Preteen small and large, and Junior small and large Dance Twirl. Whether you want to twirl for fun, be part of a team, or compete as individual, we offer classes and private coaching for all levels and experience. For those of you who are unfamiliar with baton, it may interest you to learn that twirling is more than marching in parades. Baton twirling is a sport of coordination and agility combined with grace and flexibility. Twirlers incorporate many disciplines into their skill set, from the art and technique of twirling a baton, certain forms of gymnastics, dance disciplines, as well as pageantry and sportsmanship. It is the sport that has something for everyone. Registration for new team members and our recreation classes will be held on Monday, September 20, from 6-8 pm at the McFaul Activities Center (behind the MVA) in Bel Air. Classes are held Wed. evenings from 6-7 (beginner recreation class) and 6-7:30 (in-house competition team and intermediate recreation class) at Bel Air Middle School. A travel competition team is offered for twirlers who would like to compete at the national level. The fall session begins on September 22, and runs for approximately ten weeks. In-house competition team and travel team members must commit for all three sessions (fall, winter, and spring). Cost is $55 per session for the beginner and intermediate class, $65 per session for the in-house competition team, and $95 per session for the travel competition team, plus a once a year $15 Parks and Rec user fee. Batons are $20. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Parks and Rec at 410-638-3528.
