My mother-in-law was working in the Johns Hopkins Hospital gift shop when the hospital was “locked down” shortly after 11 a.m. today. Luckily, she had her car keys with her and when police directed her to a back door she was able to get out and get home well before the standoff ended four hours later. Eventually we learned that a man who allegedly was upset with his mother’s medical treatment shot a Hopkins doctor in the abdomen and then fatally shot his mother and himself following a standoff on the 8th floor of the hospital complex’s Nelson Building. The doctor is expected to recover. Click here to read the Baltimore Sun’s coverage. Check out reporter Justin Fenton’s tweets from the scene at the bottom of the story.
