If you have a middle schooler like I do, you’ll be interested in this. Harford County Public Schools are holding open houses for their magnet high school programs starting this coming week. The district offers magnet programs in math and science, global studies, natural resources and agriculture and 19 career programs in such things as nursing, computer-aided design and sports medicine. Students who might be considering careers in these fields can apply in 8th grade. Their acceptance into the programs will depend in part on their grades in 7th and 8th grade, so if you have a child in middle school, it’s time to check out how their grades are looking on Edline.net. These programs can give them a head start on their advanced degrees and some allow them to acquire college credits. The magnet programs are located at Aberdeen High School, North Harford High School, Edgewood High School and Harford Technical High School. The deadline to apply is Dec. 3.
