Harford County Executive has declared a State of Emergency in advance of Hurricane Irene; parks and rec facilities close at midnight, emergency shelter to open Saturday at Patterson Mill High School

From www.harfordcountymd.gov:

County Executive David R. Craig has declared a State of Emergency, effective today, as Harford County prepares for Hurricane Irene.

All county-owned facilities, including Parks & Recreation facilities, will be closed beginning at midnight tonight, and will remain closed until further notice. Be advised that this includes boat launching ramps that are owned by the county.

Harford County Government and the Department of Social Services will be opening an emergency shelter on Saturday at noon at Patterson Mill High School (85 Patterson Mill Road, Bel Air). The shelter is available to any citizen who feels as though they are not safe in their homes. Representatives from many county agencies, including Animal Control, will be on hand to meet citizens’ needs.

The Harford County Information Hotline (410-838-5800) will be operating beginning at 7:00 AM Saturday. The hotline is available to answer citizens’ questions before, during, and after the storm, and to relay timely emergency status information.
