Gala Check Presentation Dec 4

Representatives of the Harford County Public Library Foundation recently presented a check for $50,000 to go toward the renovation and expansion of the Havre de Grace Library. Here are the details:

(Belcamp, Maryland – December 13, 2013) Excitement is building for the renovation and expansion of the Havre de Grace Library. The project is anticipated to begin in 2014. Harford County Public Library (HCPL) Foundation representatives and Library Gala committee members joined Harford County Public Library Director, Mary Hastler, last week for a $50,000 check presentation. The contribution kicks off the Foundation’s fundraising efforts for the Havre de Grace Library Building Campaign.

“The Harford County Public Library system is an incredible asset for our community,” stated Dave Patzer, HCPL Foundation President. “Harford County Public Library is changing lives! The newly renovated and expanded Havre de Grace Library will make a positive impact on thousands of families in Harford County. We look forward to contributing to the campaign in 2014 and to seeing this important project become a reality.”

“The Havre de Grace Library has been an integral part of the community for over 50 years.  The Library is very appreciative of this generous contribution to the Havre de Grace Building Campaign.  Libraries build communities and communities build libraries,” stated HCPL Director, Mary Hastler.

The Havre de Grace Library has experienced significant increases in circulation (56% over the last five years) and walk-in traffic, as well as a surge in computer use.  The current building has become increasingly inadequate due to customer demands, the need for a greater variety of resources and services, and technology advances.

Plans for the new building include an expanded children’s area with interactive capabilities; more space for community meetings; increased access to new technology (including computer labs and wireless internet); enhanced business resources and job search tools; additional space for quiet study, tutoring, computer training, and Library programming; and expanded shelving for print and non-print collections.

The Harford County Public Library Foundation has set a goal to raise $200,000 for the campaign by 2015. Individuals and businesses can learn more about the project or contribute to the campaign at HCPLonline.org.
